Movie: Glengarry Glen Ross // Said by Blake (Alec Baldwin) to the room of salesmen.
WHAT IT MEANS:
It’s quite literal, really… always keep the goal – closing the deal – in mind, and take every opportunity you have to further that mission. Generate leads, find opportunities to pitch, and of course, make the sale. Note that this doesn’t mean to explicitly always be closing (i.e. it’s probably not a good idea to constantly talk about the sale with your prospect) – but to do everything you can to help increase deals – for examples, invest in building relationships, and when you see that something will not result in a sale, cut bait and move onto something that will.
IT MAY COME IN HANDY WHEN…
- A sale is taking too long and you want to encourage somebody to push it forward or cut bait
- You see somebody losing focus or getting distracted from their priority and want to remind them to keep their eye on the prize
- You want to convey the message that doing things to build a relationship with a potential buyer is a good use of time and energy
- You’re motivating somebody to do everything they possibly can to increase sales
